"The European Tour’s flagship event once upon a time rotated on several of Britain’s finest courses, Wentworth being among them, but in 1984 it returned to the West Course and hasn’t ever left.
It was a fine piece of matchmaking. The BMW PGA Championship, as it is now known and Wentworth’s West Course have been good for one another. Every spring this is European golf’s main attraction.
And many of European golf’s major champions have triumphed in this event; the likes of Jacklin, Ballesteros, Faldo, Langer, Woosnam and Olazabal, as well as eight-time Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie. It remains high on every player’s victory wish list.
With the European Tour having expanded to new international horizons, the schedule is such that the BMW PGA Championship now signals the arrival every year of championship golf in mainland Britain, and with it comes that buzz of anticipation and excitement. Ah yes, Wentworth in the spring is indeed a splendid place to be".

Have you ever hit two of your best shots within 50 yards of the flag only to take another 5 or more to get the ball in the hole?

 

The short game is the part of golf that most golfers neglect, yet 80% of golf is played within a 100 yards of the flag. In golf, if you play a confident short game and can chip and lob the ball well, extract yourself from a bunker and sink your putts, your long game only needs to get you within range of the hole, wherever the ball lands in relation to the green. Playing well near the hole gives you a distinct advantage over most of your golfing opponents who will spend the majority of their practice time on the driving range with a driver!

A sharp and confident short game will be a match for any of your opponents and also equal lower medal scores.

Most golfers select the same golf club no matter what shot they face when pitching and chipping onto the green. They then wonder why they aren’t getting the ball as close as their golfing buddies.
